Doug Sam and his father/trainer Assan Sam travelled to Perth on 13th November to compete in the Senior National Titles. Doug won fights on the 15th, 16th, and 17th of November. In the final of the Light-Middleweight Division, Doug won his gold medal when he defeated Peter Scribberas. Awarded Fighter of the Series Belt.

13-year-old Hector Poynter, from Palm Island, hits fastest century of the season playing cricket for Souths under 15 team. Hector, who attends the deaf school, also shows promise as a soccer player and will soon throw the javelin at the state secondary school's athletic titles.

St. Michael's and State School's combined netball team travel to Townsville for two-day sports trip. The team played five netball games and won four, also playing basketball, softball and soccer. Sometime pre-August in 1978.
Article also highlights the interesting and successful 1978 season enjoyed by the team. Travelling as far a field as Home Hill to compete in the Queensland Junior Representative Trials, the team received positive comments from the Queensland Rep. Selectors.
