"YARRABAH aboriginal mission station, which is beyond Cairns, made a successful appeal through the Queensland Cricket Association for old material to start a club. A letter received from the mission this week stated that the 'boys' were working hard preparing a pitch, and a ground in preparation for the parcel of cricket goods which should be there in time to be a Christmas gift. The material has been used by clubs; but it is in good enough order, and there is sufficient of it to provide months of recreation and pleasure at Yarrabah."

Bishop of North Queensland, Dr Frodsham, reporting on his visit to Yarrabah in 1906: "They were not over preaching to them, and they were not always working, because they believed in the adage that 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.' Special work was set down, and when that was done they let the natives enjoy and amuse themselves. They played an excellent game of football; they also played cricket, and also indulged in boomerang and spear throwing and the most interesting dances and corroborees. For years he [Gribble] had been trying to understand the principle behind the corroborees". Attempts to explain Gribble's understanding of corroborrees.
