Description

Rev E. Selwyn Chase, who replaced Gribble temporarily, appeals for footballs and cricket bats. Source: Missionary Notes, 20 5 1904, p. 35
Prep for removal of Fraser Island inmates to Yarrabah. Report claims that FI people have a propensity for gambling that Y people do not. Will even gamble at marbles. As a precaution, all marbles are being removed from Y. There are so many men and boys that Y will need “a good supply of different [gaming and sports] articles”. “Our girls warmly appreciate a game of football, so that we need a football for them, one for the boys, and one for the men. Again, one set of cricketing tools is not sufficient; we need at least three set, as we have at present but one set of cricketing tools and no football. Will some kind friends help us in this matter?”. Source: Missionary Notes, 21 9 1904 pp. 87-88.
