Grade 8 students, as is the annual custom, had a week-long visit to Cairns 15-23 October 1986 and visited Yarrabah for sport: "Highlights of this year's tour were visits to Mossman Sugar Mill and a ride on the Ballyhooley Train; Saturday morning shopping at Rusty's Market; a Sports Exchange with Yarrabah High School..."

Group of students from Bamaga State High School visited Yarrabah from Townsville:
"we had to leave Townsville. When the bus came, we all jumped on
and drove to Yarrabah to play sports. On the way. we played games on the bus and had a sleep. At Yarrabah the girls played soccer and basket bail and the boys played basketball and touch football. The boys won the basketball and the girls won both their games. Bamaga MUTHA BYN SKINT THEM FLA! Ned did a slam dunk in basketball, because rhe rings were low".

Yarrabah Under-12s boys rugby league players travelled to Cairns by bus every Saturday during football season and made the finals. OPAL Yarrabah and OPAL Cairns paid for the boys' football shorts.
